Comment: Oliver cited "C. Lachryma, L.; Kunth, Enum. Plant. i.20" as the species under which this variety was placed. In Kunth, Enum. pl. 1:20. this is cited as "C. Lachryma Linn. Sp. 1378", this reference being to Linnaeus, Sp. pl. ed. 2, 2:1378. 1763, where the name appears as "Coix Lacryma. Jobi.", closely matching the entry for this species in Sp. pl. 2:972. 1753. The abbreviated entry that Linnaeus used for this species in Syst. nat. ed. 10, 2:1261. 1759, "Coix Lacryma", repeating the nominum specificum legitimum of this species from 1753, should not be taken as the publication of a new species but simply as an orthographic variant or abbreviation of the 1753 name, to which Oliver's variety belongs.
